Other Styles

A style inspired by Star Trek Enterprise. The Asian communications officer Hoshi Sato wears her hair like that all the time (just that she uses an elastic for her ponytail, I wear a FranceLuxe barrette in Opera Silver in this pic). Instructions can be found at Fox' Styling Station.
A small sparkly snowflake barrette from a local Douglas perfumery. The perfect winter accessory! And it's well made and hair friendly, too.

Snoods! A great way to confine hair without really wearing it up, hide over-conditioning or oiling desasters, or just show off a little sophisticated old-fashionedness ;) They work under hats, too.
My snoods were custom made by Lady McSnood.
The MrsEl knot - thanks to Fox who posted instructions on the Styling Station! I used one of my three prong forks by Blondiesturn.
I had been looking for a quick, cute, messy style ever since my hair got too long for messy "peacock" twists with claw clips, so this came really handy. Had to play with it a little to get the tension just right, but it's definitely worth working on.

I hadn't been wearing ponytails for ages until I discovered Bunjii ponytailers. They work well and look pretty and unique, even on my flimsy and pathetic tail ;)
Most of the time I prefer a style that protects my fragile ends better than a ponytail though.
Last but not least some photos of my hair worn down (left to right: September 2002, March 2003, September 2003).
According to Fia's hair typing system I'm a 1CFi - straight with one or two loose S-waves, fine individual strands and below average ponytail circumference. I'm working on my "horizontal volume" though with food supplements and better care and can already see some improvement :)
